This post is basic, almost too simplified. It sets out to do only two things; to talk about some minor adjustments. But to also show how incremental steps make a good product into a better one. During a meeting about other topics, our CEO noted some adjustments to our premium multi-purpose data logger.
- LTE Cat 1
- Satellite connectivity
- Battery cycling improvements
“It just works” coverage.
Unless you’re in direct conversation with the project lead, you would never know about these minimal scope product changes. LTE Cat 1 runs on ordinary 4G, the same network your phone uses. Cat 1 is a variation of standard 4G LTE, so it works anywhere 4G is available. Roaming isn’t restricted. If a device has to work in many countries or cross borders, Cat 1 is a good bet.
Remote, but not totally “out there”
Satellite connectivity is a value proposition that assists you when coverage is spotty. It works for clients that normally have a wider geographical spread – so, international shippers, intermodal logistics, rail, etc. This feature is an upgrade option, but it has specific fallback value to the sectors mentioned.
Field improvements to the power supply
The third topic of interest was our ability to get more efficiency out of battery cell packs. Using the step down charging method we discussed in a previous post, we can get significantly improved performance levels from our battery packs. This gives both longer time in the field and improved device performance levels.
Individually, these little changes are minor. Collectively, you can see how we can work in more remote locations, using more flexible networking abilities (for setup and scale up) with more fallback options, for longer.
